SD EnergyEdge offers incentives to San Diego Gas & Electric® commercial customers for projects and business of all sizes. These incentives include rebates that provide cash payments to help upgrade equipment, custom incentives for larger projects and installations, and financing to help lower costs of an energy efficiency project.

Commercial business incentives from SD EnergyEdge are projected to help San Diego commercial businesses save 200,000 kWh and 789,808 therms, equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions of just under 1,000 gasoline-powered cars on the road for one year.

Are these incentives really at ‘no cost’?

One frequent question from San Diego SDG&E customers applying for rebates is “where does the money come from to provide cash or incentives to help my business?”

In a nutshell, SD EnergyEdge is funded through the California Public Purpose Program (PPP). The PPP is a program that offers rebates to San Diego Gas & Electric commercial customers when they upgrade to or install new, high-efficiency equipment or systems. Contributions on SDGE customer’s bills, as mandated by the California Public Utilities Commission, allow us to offer these no-cost services to commercial businesses like yours participating in PPP funding. In other words, we’re paid by existing charges on customers’ utility bills.

What’s the history behind PPP?

In 2000, Assembly Bill (AB) 1002 was enacted and implemented through a gas PPP surcharge to recover California Public Utilities Commission-authorized gas funding for, among other things, Energy Efficiency Funds (EE), Low Income EE (now known as Energy Savings Assistance Program, or ESAP), and California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) administrative program costs through a separate surcharge.

That bill now allows us to help businesses like yours to reduce energy use and save money at no additional cost to you.
