Demand response opportunities for SD EnergyEdge customers

What is demand response?

SDG&E demand response (DR) programs allow businesses to earn money by shifting operations outside of peak afternoon and evening periods on some summer days.

During a DR event, your business may be asked to temporarily lower your energy use during a few peak hours. Prior notice is typically provided for these events so you have time to prepare.

Conserving energy during a DR event can be simple. Common strategies include:

  • Charging battery-powered equipment outside of peak times
  • Pre-cooling your space in the early morning or afternoon
  • Powering down non-essential lighting or electronics

Demand response incentives from SD EnergyEdge

Participating in DR programs requires the right equipment and technology to respond quickly and effectively during DR events. SD EnergyEdge incentives help offset the upfront costs of making sure your facility is DR-ready.

Incentives may be available to cover the costs of:

  • Qualifying control systems
  • Installation, programming, and commissioning labor
  • Project management services

These incentives are designed to make it easier for your business to participate in DR and start earning rewards.

*DR incentives vary by each customer and their needs. In order to find out what you may qualify for, please get in touch with us below. Customers must remain enrolled in a DR program for a year in order to receive incentives.

Demand response programs available

Capacity Bidding (CBP)
The Capacity Bidding Program (CBP) runs May 1st through October 31st, generally between the hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., but you can enroll in the program at any time of the year. The program will let you know the day ahead if and when a reduction in operation is needed, allowing you to create a plan that offers flexibility in deciding how you can earn incentives by reducing your energy usage when called upon.

Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP)
The Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP) allows customers to voluntarily participate in decreasing energy use when the grid is especially stressed and get paid $2 per kWh. An event may be called any day of the week from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the months of May through October with an event duration of one hour to five hours without penalties.
